The Glory of God

>> Tuesday, January 27, 2009

So, several weeks ago, AJ and I got to talkin' about stuff, and somehow we landed on the glory of God. Since then, i've found myself thinking about the implications of our conversation. Anyways, enough of this vague intro business.

The summary of our conversation could be, "we have a grossly inaccurate view of the glory of God." So many people ask questions about heaven such as "will dogs be there, because I can't live without snowflake?" or "I hope they have call of duty there...I have a hunch that there will be some sick multiplayer." Or what about those who are scared about the prospect of worshipping God for all eternity?

The question is: What does this say about God? Does it not imply that he is unable to provide for us happiness like puppies and technology?

The truth is that the glory of God is more attractive and captivating and amazing and glorious and awful and crazy than anything both on earth and in heaven. Moses saw a GLIMPSE of it and he had to veil his face because it was glowing. The angels posess a portion of it and it is written that they shone like LIGHTNING. It is this that caused Isaiah to cry out "Woe is me! I am a man of unclean lips admist a people of unclean lips." It is this that caused Peter to cry out "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man o Lord." It is this very thing that will replace the sun in the new heavens and new earth; it is this that will be our portion day and night.

So let us follow Moses' example and ask God to show us His glory, and specifically, the glory of God in Jesus' face. Let us thirst after the glory of God and not be satisfied until he reveals it, even if it means we have to wrestle him through the night.
